Patch Cords, Pigtails, Fiber Cords Details: The Patch Cords, Pigtails, Fiber cords and Mechanical Connectors shall be used in exchanges, equipment cabinets, boxes and main equipment room housing Optical Line Terminal Equipment and associated Fiber Management Systems, as well as cabinets and boxes located in customer’s building where transmission equipment are provided.
A device mounted on the patch panel, used to mechanically align, couple and mate or join two plug-in optical connectors of patch cords and pigtails. This is intended to provide a readily available or separable connection between two optical fibers.
➥Interconnection of patch panels to optical equipment.
➥Interconnection of OSP circuits with Fiber Optic Transmission System equipment circuits or exchange equipment or cross-connection between cable plant segments.
➥Distribution and termination of indoor fiber optic cables within the customer’s premises.
➥Termination of OSP fiber optic cables (entering the exchange or customer building) in Optical Distribution Frame/Optical Termination Box or termination panels.
➥Termination of fibers by using field installable mechanical connectors as an alternative to fusion splices.

Connectors
A device means for providing a readily separable plug-in connection between two optical fibers using a matching adapter. As a rule, the insertion loss of a connector is higher than the transmission loss of a splice.
Connector – FC/PC: A type of optical connector with FC (Ferrule Connector or Fiber Connector) connection and PC (Physical Contact) polished fiber end-face.
FC-PC and FC-APS Connector |
Connector – FC/APC: A type of optical connector with FC (Ferrule Connector or Fiber Connector) connection and APC (Angle Physical Contact) polished fiber end-face. See above image.
Connector – LC/APC : A type of optical connector with LC (Lucent or Local Connector) connection and APC (Angle Physical Contact) polished fiber end-face.

Connector – SC/APC: A type of optical connector with SC (Subscriber or Square Connector) connection and APC (Angle Physical Contact) polished fiber end-face.
Fiber Cords
A type of fiber cable that is small in diameter, without connectors, available in simplex (one fiber) or duplex (two fiber) format, intended to be terminated or connnectorized at site.
Patch Cord
Single fiber cable pre-assembled with similar or a combination connectors types at both ends (hybrid), such as FC/PC, FC/APC, SC/APC, LC/APC etc.
Patch Panel
A plate used to mount standard adapters or through connectors, e.g. FC, SC or LC type adapters.
FC/SC/LC |
Pigtail
A short length of single fiber cable pre-assembled with a connector at one end (e.g. FC, SC or LC), and at the other end being open-ended (not terminated), normally reserved for connection to the OSP fiber cable by fusion splicing.
A protective material extruded directly on the fiber coating to protect it from the environment that is called the Tight-Buffered.
The patch cords, pigtails, fiber cords and mechanical connectors shall be able to be efficiently handled and managed during termination, splicing, routing, securing and storage. All metallic parts of the patch cords and pigtails shall be corrosion-proof.The patch cords and pigtails shall be of high quality design, workmanship and finish.A protective dust cap shall be immediately placed on every fiber connector ferrule upon satisfactory
completion of testing.
Test result data and individual characteristics shall be supplied with every patch cords, pigtails, fiber cords and mechanical connectors. All materials used in the cable shall be non-toxic and dermatologically safe.
